A resident of Kibera Africa’s largest slum, stands beside his belongings on September 16, 2009 prior to moving into modern, low income residential estate with modern schools, markets, playgrounds and other facilities, as part of the government plan to clear the slum. The project is expected to take from two to five years with the first people moving to be rehoused nearby in 300 newly built apartments, each paying about euro 6.80 (US10) a month in rent as opposed to euro 18 (US27) in their preivious dwelling. People in Kibera have had to cope with overcrowding, soaring crime rates and poor sanitation in recent years. AFP PHOTO / SIMON MAINA (Photo credit should read SIMON MAINA/AFP/Getty Images)
